TI-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculator Online
The TI-84 Plus CE is the most widely used graphing calculator in high school and college mathematics. Our free browser based version replicates the full TI-84 Plus CE experience every key, every menu, every function directly in your browser with no download, no installation, and no cost.
Used by students for homework, exam preparation, and in class practice. Trusted by teachers for demonstrations and virtual lessons. Available 24 hours a day on any device including phones, tablets, and laptops.
Getting Started
The online TI-84 works exactly like the physical device. Use the on screen keypad or your computer keyboard to enter equations and commands.
Essential keys to know:
- [ON] — Power on / reset the calculator
- [2nd] — Access secondary functions (shown above each key in blue)
- [ALPHA] — Access letter characters (shown above each key in green)
- [MODE] — Switch between Degree/Radian, Normal/Scientific, and other settings
- [Y=] and [GRAPH] — Enter and plot equations
- [STAT] — Open the statistics menu for data entry and analysis
- [MATH] — Access algebra, calculus, and number theory functions
Key Features
Graphing
One of the most powerful features of the TI-84 Plus CE is function plotting. To graph any equation:
- Press [Y=] and enter your function (e.g. X² + 2X − 3)
- Press [GRAPH] to display the plot
- Use [ZOOM] for preset viewing windows
- Press [TRACE] to move your cursor along the curve and read coordinates
- Press [2nd][TRACE] to calculate zeros, intersections, minimums, and maximums
You can graph up to 10 functions simultaneously, each displayed in a different color on the TI-84 Plus CE color screen.
Algebra and Equation Solving
The TI-84 handles all standard algebraic operations:
- Evaluate expressions using correct order of operations
- Compute powers, roots, and fractions using [^], [x²], and [MATH] menus
- Solve equations numerically using the Solver under [MATH] → 0: Solver
- Work with matrices for linear algebra under [2nd][x⁻¹] (MATRIX menu)
Statistics and Data Analysis
The [STAT] menu is the gateway to all statistical functions on the TI-84. Key functions include:
- 1-Var Stats – mean, median, standard deviation, 5 number summary
- 2-Var Stats – bivariate statistics for two data sets
- LinReg(ax+b) – linear regression with correlation coefficient
- normalcdf / invNorm – normal distribution calculations
- t-tests and z-tests – hypothesis testing under [STAT] → TESTS
For a complete statistics guide, see how to do statistics on a TI-84.
Scientific Functions
Trigonometric functions ([SIN], [COS], [TAN]) and their inverses work in both Degree and Radian mode. For science courses that focus on scientific calculation rather than graphing, also try our TI-30XS scientific calculator online.
Logarithmic functions [LOG] and [LN] compute base-10 and natural logarithms. Access e^x via [2nd][LN] and 10^x via [2nd][LOG].
Calculus Functions
- nDeriv( – numerical derivative at a specific point: [MATH] → 8
- fnInt( — numerical definite integral: [MATH] → 9
- These are the two most important calculator functions for AP Calculus
Display and Mode Settings
The [MODE] menu controls how the TI-84 displays and interprets information:
- Radian / Degree – choose based on your course (AP Calculus uses Radians)
- Float / 0-9 – set decimal precision for your results
- Normal / Sci / Eng – choose number notation format
- MathPrint / Classic – MathPrint shows fractions and expressions naturally as they appear in textbooks

Exam Compatibility
The TI-84 Plus CE is approved for use on:
- SAT — calculator allowed Math section
- ACT — Mathematics section
- AP Calculus AB and BC — calculator required on Parts 1A and 2A
- AP Statistics — calculator required throughout
- AP Chemistry and Physics — graphing calculator permitted
- PSAT/NMSQT — approved
The TI-84 does NOT have CAS (Computer Algebra System) functionality, which means it complies with all current exam policies including the August 2025 College Board CAS ban. See our complete TI-84 exam rules guide for full details.
TI-84 vs Other Calculators
Is this the same as the physical TI-84 Plus CE?
This is a web based emulator that replicates the TI-84 Plus CE interface and functions. All standard mathematical functions, graphing tools, statistics menus, and key sequences work identically to the physical device.
Is ti84.online completely free?
Yes. No ads, no subscriptions, no hidden fees, and no registration required.
Does it work on mobile phones and tablets?
Yes. Fully optimized for iPhone, Android, and tablets. Use landscape mode for the best experience.
Can I use this during the SAT or ACT?
No. Online calculators are not permitted in exam rooms. Use ti84.online to practice and prepare then bring your physical TI-84 on test day.
How do I add a median using 2-Var Stats?
Press [STAT] → 1: Edit → enter x-values in L1, y-values in L2 → [STAT] → CALC → 2: 2-Var Stats → scroll down in results to find Med.
What if I get an error message?
See our complete TI-84 troubleshooting guide for fixes to every common error including ERR: INVALID DIM, ERR: SYNTAX, and ERR: DOMAIN.
What is the difference between the TI-84 Plus and TI-84 Plus CE?
The CE (Color Edition) has a color backlit display, rechargeable lithium ion battery, faster processor, and more memory than the original TI-84 Plus. The CE is the current model actively sold and supported by Texas Instruments.
